Silver State Equality is a Nevada-based program affiliated with and supported by Equality California and Equality California Institute, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. Together, we’re fighting for full LGBTQ+ equality on multiple fronts: Electing pro-equality champions, up and down the ballot; Passing pro-equality legislation in Carson City and Washington DC; Advancing LGBTQ+ civil rights and social justice in the courtroom; and Reducing disparities in LGBTQ+ health and well-being through education and advocacy. Silver State Equality Institute: is a 501(c)3 organization that has a parallel mission to Silver State Equality (SSEQ), its 501(c)4 counterpart. SSEQI advocates for and educates the broader community on important LGBTQ+ issues such as HIV, LGBTQ+ youth in out-of-home care, transgender equality, violence and hate crimes, healthcare, health disparities, and voter education and engagement. Position Overview: Silver State Equality seeks a full-time salaried exempt Civic Engagement Manager to work in both a C4 and C3 capacity to register, engage and mobilize voters primarily in Southern Nevada while also providing to support needed in Nevada, and organize pro-equality community members in support of pro-equality legislation and candidates while fending off anti-LGBTQ+ attacks and rhetoric. The Civic Engagement Manager will work to recruit volunteers and organize around various events, actions, and campaigns primarily in Southern ) Nevada with some work also being done in Nevada. The Civic Engagement Manager will work to build coalitions and support for pro-equality policies, regulations, and bills that are introduced during the Nevada legislative session and work to identify and prepare volunteers and community members to submit written and/or verbal testimonies during legislative hearings. Additionally, the Civic Engagement Manager will work to implement Silver State Equality Institute’s programs and raise awareness about them from a grassroots and a grass-roots approach. Although this position is based in Nevada, there will be some projects and activities that have a state-wide reach and focus, which includes parts for rural Nevada. This position will be based in Nevada and the candidate will need to live in Southern Nevada working remotely. The position will report to the State Director. Responsibilities: Lead voter registration and education campaigns, including recruiting, training, and managing volunteers for phone-banking, text-banking, and canvassing activities in southern Nevada and with at least 25% of time devoted to supporting Nevada efforts. Execute civic engagement and political strategic plans. Input and manage volunteer and voter data in EveryAction, VAN, and other platforms. Perform direct voter contact, including canvassing, text and phone banking, at community events, including Prides. Promote Silver State Equality Institute programs related to public health initiatives like COVID-19 education, HIV prevention and education, MPOX, students and schools. Provide regular reports of voter contact, volunteer recruitment and other metric goals to the State Director. Represent Silver State Equality in various coalitions and partnerships working to engage the LGBTQ+ community, allies and the diverse communities to which we belong to advance full, lived LGBTQ+ equality. Represent Silver State Equality at community events, meetings of local LGBTQ+ organizations and political and civic engagement clubs, press conferences, and other public and private events. Develop and maintain a strong relationship with local elected officials, candidates, campaigns, volunteers, and partner organizations. Help to grow Silver State Equality’s presence, impact, and collaboration with partner organizations across Nevada. Promote Silver State Equality fundraising activities across the state of Nevada (and parts of rural) Nevada through one-on-one meetings, events, and other forms of direct communication. Interface with lobbyists when conducting legislative work. Identify and draft content for organic social media posts via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram related to grant deliverables and LGBTQ+ current events, as needed. Provide information to satisfy reports related to grants and other projects and programs. Work with interns, when applicable, to ensure work is coordinated and goals are met. Be familiar with LGBTQ+ competencies, issues, topics, best and promising practices, and the political landscape in Nevada. Attend weekly staff meetings. Support other work of the organization on an as-needed basis at the discretion of the State Director, Managing Directors, and Executive Director. Qualifications: Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude: At least 2 – 3 years of experience working in any of the following fields: politics, advocacy, community outreach, voter education and engagement, and mobilization; as well as, working in social justice areas including: civil rights, progressive and/or social justice organizations, preferably in the LGBTQ+ movement and public health. Experience working on (or a desire to work on) health issues, youth issues, voter education and engagement, and/or public health issues such as COVID-19, MPOX, and HIV prevention and education. Knowledge, passion and commitment to addressing issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community as well as advancing equality and social justice generally. Strong public presentation skills, and experience in public speaking and/or training. Strong written communication skills including ability to assist in writing grant proposals, draft member communications, social media outreach, and event publicity. Commitment to working across lines of difference including race, class, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, and legal status to achieve objectives. Ability and interest to work with a wide range of organizations and institutions including other LGBTQ+ groups, unions, religious congregations, and other social justice and advocacy organizations. Demonstrated experience with at least some of these types of organizations preferred. Reliable transportation with the ability to travel frequently to major markets throughout Southern Nevada specifically and Nevada as a whole is required. This position will be expected to travel at least 25% of the time. Strong desire to contribute to the mission of Silver State Equality. Ability and experience in forming strong public relationships. Experience recruiting, managing, and training volunteers on political campaigns. An understanding of the local political landscape and relationships with local political, labor and advocacy leaders preferred. Proficiency with political data, EveryAction, VAN, ActBlue and other engagement and fundraising platforms preferred. Proficiency in Spanish or another language other than English is desired, but not required. Above all else, a positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively and in support of the Silver State Equality mission. A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is required; higher degree in political science, public administration, public policy, or the like, is preferred. Salary ($67,275 – $80,500, will be based on experience and includes competitive benefits (healthcare, dental, vision, long/short term disability, life insurance and 401K). This full-time salaried exempt position will be based out of Southern Nevada and will require a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work time, as well as regular travel across Nevada (and occasional travel to California). This will also include participation in some Silver State Equality’s schedule of events, including Pride festivals, fundraisers, community engagement and advocacy events, and more. Applicants will be reimbursed for mileage but must have a reliable car and be able to drive in Nevada.
