October 13, 2022 by Jasmine Pantoja Leave a Comment

Position: Community Health Worker (Northern & Southern Nevada)

Tentative Start Date:

ASAP

Organizational Background:

Silver State Equality is Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization that brings the voices of LGBTQ+ people and allies to institutions of power in Nevada and across the United States, striving to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ+ people. Silver State Equality is a Nevada-based program affiliated with and supported by Equality California and Equality California Institute, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. Together, we’re fighting for full LGBTQ+ equality on multiple fronts:

  • Passing pro-equality legislation in Carson City and Washington DC;
  • Advancing LGBTQ+ civil rights and social justice in the courtroom; and
  • Reducing disparities in LGBTQ+ health and well-being through education and advocacy.

Silver State Equality Institute brings the voices of LGBTQ+ people and allies to institutions of power in Nevada and across the United States, striving to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ+ people.

Silver State Equality Institute (SSEQI) is a 501(c)3 organization that has a parallel mission to Silver State Equality (SSEQ), its 501(c)4 counterpart. SSEQI advocates for and educates the broader community on important LGBTQ+ issues such as HIV, LGBTQ+ youth in out-of-home care, transgender equality, hate crimes prevention, healthcare, health disparities, and voter education and engagement.

Position Overview:

According to the Nevada Community Health Worker Association, “A CHW is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has a close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the CHW to serve as a liaison between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.”

in order to educate the public at-large.

  • Conduct outreach to diverse communities impacted by MPXV, which includes gay,
bisexual, men who have sex with men, transgender women, and sex workers. This also includes those who are Black and Hispanic.
  • Develop relationships with community partners, local businesses, and interpersonal
network gatekeepers to disseminate information about MPXV
  • Help with the planning and implementation to disseminate information about MPXV in various community events like drag shows, drag bingo, sex positive workshops, advocacy workshops, etc.
  • Work with service providers that deliver services to people experiencing homelessness and those who are precariously housed to disseminate MPXV information.
  • Work with the hotel and hospitality industry to disseminate MPXV information.
  • Record data on the number of people who have been given information, number of
attended events, and number of organizations partnered with. Periodically summarize data and information and share with the state director.
