LAS VEGAS — An unidentified individual spray-painted a homophobic slur on the glass doors of the entrance to The LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada on Thursday morning. Silver State Equality, Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, released the following statement from State Director André C. Wade, who previously served as The Center’s executive director:
“Yesterday, The Center, a place of gathering and support for Southern Nevada’s LGBTQ community and our allies, was vandalized by someone who painted an anti-gay slur on the building’s front door. This reprehensible, hateful act has no place in our community, and it does not reflect who we are. As Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, Silver State Equality stands with The Center and all LGBTQ Nevadans in our shared struggle for full, lived equality. Our community will not be intimidated, and we will not live in fear.”
As Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, Silver State Equality brings the voices of LGBTQ people and allies to institutions of power in Nevada and throughout the U.S. Silver State Equality strives to create a world that is healthy, just and fully equal for all LGBTQ people. Silver State Equality is a Nevada-based program affiliated with and supported by Equality California and Equality California Institute, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization.
