SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, and its Nevada-based statewide affiliate Silver State Equality released a joint 2019 federal legislative scorecard on Friday. In the U.S. House of Representatives, forty-seven of California’s 53 members* and three of Nevada’s 4 members received scores of 100 percent. All four of California and Nevada’s senators received scores of 100 percent. In the House, scores were based on six floor votes and the vote for to impeach President Trump. Senators were scored on two floor votes and five confirmation votes.
Equality California and Silver State Equality released the following statement from National Policy Director Valerie Ploumpis:
“In many respects, 2019 was a brutal year for our LGBTQ community — with President Trump doing everything in his power to attack LGBTQ people and the diverse communities to which we belong. California and Nevada are lucky to have so many fierce, pro-equality members of Congress representing us in Washington, DC. Our permanent office in the nation’s capital will continue to support these members and their work to achieve full, lived equality for all LGBTQ people until the work is done.”
As Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, Silver State Equality brings the voices of LGBTQ people and allies to institutions of power in Nevada and throughout the U.S. Silver State Equality strives to create a world that is healthy, just and fully equal for all LGBTQ people. Silver State Equality is a Nevada-based program affiliated with and supported by Equality California and Equality California Institute, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization.
