LAS VEGAS — Silver State Equality, Nevada’s leading statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, today announced the endorsement of six candidates statewide.

Silver State Equality released the following statement from State Director André Wade:

“From local school boards to city councils to the state legislature, Silver State Equality is dedicated to electing pro-equality champions up and down the ballot. Today, we are proud to endorse six candidates who will advocate for our LGBTQ+ community and all Nevadans in their hometowns and statewide. We look forward to working alongside each of them in the fight for equality and to advance social justice for marginalized communities,”

The following candidates have received endorsements from Silver State Equality:

Nevada State Senate District 11: Dallas Harris
During her tenure as a Nevada State Senator, Harris has shown an unyielding commitment to being a voice for equality in the Nevada Legislature, demonstrating her strength and tenacity on many key legislative priorities such as homelessness, education and social equity, including the support and passage of a designated advisory task force on HIV exposure modernization. As a pro-equality champion, she will continue to shine light on and fight for solutions to issues that affect Nevada’s most vulnerable citizens.

Nevada State Senate District 6: Nicole Cannizzaro
The first woman elected Majority Leader of the Nevada State Senate, State Senator Cannizzaro is a consistent advocate for the state’s most at-risk communities, sponsoring legislation to protect senior citizens from elder abuse; new laws that strengthen the state’s domestic violence penalties; a sexual assault survivors bill of rights; the elimination of barriers for disabled veterans to medical treatment, and increased access to mental health services.

Nevada State Assembly District 29: Lesley Cohen
A member of the Nevada State Assembly since 2016, Cohen has been a steadfast ally of the LGBTQ+ community, demonstrating resolve and an in-depth knowledge on many key issues including education policy, a clean energy economy, commonsense gun background checks and small business development. Cohen will continue to be a champion for all Nevadans, and especially the state most vulnerable and marginalized populations.

Reno City Council, At-Large: Devon Reese
Reese is the only openly LGBTQ+ member of the Reno City Council. As Councilperson and Mayor Pro-Tem, Reese has been a staunch supporter of those communities most effected by inequality and injustice. Working from the core belief that the function of a community is to provide for the most vulnerable, he has worked to find solutions to such devastating conditions as access to affordable housing.

Washoe County School Board Trustee, District D: Kurt Thigpen
If elected, Thigpen would be the first LGBTQ+ member of the Washoe County School Board. A successful entrepreneur, Thigpen is turning his attention to public office and the Washoe County School to defend those that need it most – Nevada’s students. As an LGBTQ+ advocate who is vocally passionate about equal rights and protections for the LGBTQ+ community, he will be a valuable addition to Nevada’s growing pro-equality movement.

West Wendover Mayor: Daniel Corona
With his election in 2016, Corona became the first openly LGTBQ+ Mayor in the state of Nevada’s history. At only 25, he was also the youngest Mayor ever elected in the state. In his position as Mayor of West Wendover, Corona has proven to be a strong advocate of governmental transparency, fair housing, healthcare accessibility and LGBTQ+ awareness. Since his election, Corona has been working tirelessly to diversify West Wendover’s economy, seeing an opportunity with the legalization of cannabis. He is committed to continue this work as well as developing a downtown from the ground up, giving West Wendover’s small businesses retail space in the urban core of the city as well as providing much needed affordable housing to the community.

Names in bold indicate an openly LGBTQ+ candidate.
